Planning your trip to Manila

Getting around

Manila is served by LRT Line 1 (green) and LRT Line 2 (blue); most tourist sites are along Line 1. The metro is extremely packed during rush hour, and everyone wears backpacks and bags on the front. Several city and provincial bus routes cross or end in Manila, and jeepneys also run.

Staying safe

Despite a reputation for crime and congestion, Manila is relatively safe if you follow basic precautions. Tourist areas are well patrolled by police or private security. Theft is common, especially pickpocketing, and driving is the worst way to get around if you do not know large-city driving.
