Planning your trip to Ho Chi Minh City

Best time to visit

The most pleasant time to visit Ho Chi Minh City is from December to February, when temperatures and humidity are lower. March and April are the hottest time of the year, with temperatures up to 40 °C. The dry season runs from December to May and the long wet season usually from May to October.

Getting around

Traffic slows to a crawl for most of the day, and the heat and chaotic streets make walking long distances impractical. The first metro line opened in December 2024, linking Ben Thanh Market in the city center with Suối Tiên and the Eastern Bus Terminus, but it is only mildly useful for short hops around the center for now.

Staying safe

In general Ho Chi Minh City is a safe city, with violent crimes such as armed robbery relatively rare. The most common crimes faced by tourists are pickpocketing and snatch theft from motorbikes. Scam artists operate on the streets, often starting with a friendly conversation.
