Planning your trip to Bora Bora

Best time to visit

The dry season, from May to October, is when tourism peaks on Bora Bora: temperatures are a few degrees lower and rain is rare. The best time weather-wise, with the least risk of storms, is in the winter months. Tourist prices rise and there are many more people around during this high season.

Climate and seasons

Bora Bora has a tropical climate with a wet season (November to April), which brings about three quarters of the yearly rainfall, high humidity and frequent, unpredictable storms. Water temperature hovers around 30 °C on average.

Getting around

Vaitape is where the ferry from the airport arrives and the only town of any size on the island; Matira, at the southern tip of the main island, has the largest beach and several hotels and restaurants. The central part of the island is extremely mountainous and has no roads, and the main island has only one sealed road. Several resorts are on motus rather than the main island, so boat transport is needed; boat transfers between those resorts, the main island and the airport are usually provided.
