Planning your trip to Rotorua

Getting around

Cityride buses (operated by Baybus) run a limited service on several routes, including to Ngongotahā (for Skyline, the National Kiwi Hatchery and Agrodome) and to the airport. Rotorua is a cyclists' paradise, with some of the best off-road mountain bike tracks in the world.

Staying safe

This geothermal wonderland has hazards: respect safety signs and barriers around active geothermal locations. Hot water and mud from geothermal springs can be boiling hot, and superheated steam may cause eruptions. A sulphurous smell means toxic gases may be present, so take care in confined and unventilated spaces, and avoid bathing in geothermal pools where the water has been in contact with the ground.
