Planning your trip to Brisbane
Best time to visit
Autumn (March to May) is the best time to visit Brisbane for most tourists not used to a humid climate, as the humidity lowers and the weather becomes more comfortable, dry and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities.
Climate and seasons
Brisbane does not have the distinct four seasons of the southern capitals. In winter its climate stays mostly dry and sunny, with daytime temperatures usually above 20 °C. In summer (December to February) humidity is high, with daytime averages around 30 °C and nights around 22 °C, and afternoon storms with hail and heavy rain are common.
Getting around
Translink runs all trains, buses, ferries and trams in South East Queensland; its website and app plan journeys with real-time updates. Contactless Visa or Mastercard cards can be used to pay.
Staying safe
Brisbane has a relatively low crime rate compared with other cities of its size, and awareness and common sense keep you safe in most cases. Trains and train stations are considered a common crime zone in the afternoons and at night, although they are patrolled and monitored by cameras, so exercise caution at those times.
