Planning your trip to Auckland
Climate and seasons
Auckland has a temperate climate, though New Zealanders often regard it as subtropical, with four distinct seasons: mild to warm summers (average highs of about 23 °C and lows of 17 °C) and mild winters. It has regular rainfall throughout the year, with more in winter than in summer, and snow is extremely rare.
Getting around
Local transport options include bus, train, ferry, shuttle, taxi and car rental; the Auckland Transport website and app plan public transport trips. For a lot of cross-city or out-of-town travel it may be more convenient to hire a car, though some city roads are congested at peak times and parking can be challenging.
Staying safe
Auckland is a safe place to visit, but thefts and robberies are more prevalent than in the rest of New Zealand and aggravated assaults are not unheard of, so take the usual precautions. South Auckland is widely regarded as one of New Zealand's most dangerous locations, so remain on your guard there at night.
