Planning your trip to Perth

Best time to visit

Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are ideal times to visit Perth. Spring, particularly October and November, is perhaps the very best time, when the famous wild flowers around Kings Park and the Avon Valley are blooming.

Climate and seasons

Perth has a temperate, Mediterranean-type climate: summers are hot and dry, and winters are generally wet and mild. Summer daytime highs average around 30 °C and can exceed 36 °C and occasionally 40 °C, though very hot days tend to have very low humidity.

Getting around

Perth has a fairly reliable and inexpensive public transport system operated by Transperth, and its website and app plan journeys with real-time updates. You can pay with a contactless Visa or Mastercard or a SmartRider card; always tag on and tag off.

Staying safe

The main dangers for an overseas visitor to Perth are sunburn and dehydration: use SPF 30+ sunscreen, a hat and preferably a shirt, and carry water in the warmer months. An insect repellent is useful on summer evenings outdoors. Perth is generally a safe city, and the emergency number is 000.
