Planning your trip to Kathmandu

Climate and seasons

Kathmandu Valley lies in Nepal's Warm Temperate Zone, where the climate is fairly temperate. The average summer temperature is 28 to 30 °C and the average winter temperature about 10 °C, with warm days followed by cool nights and mornings.

Getting around

There are few house numbers or street names except on major roads, so directions are usually given relative to the nearest chowk or tole (an intersection or square) or a landmark. In the tourist district of Thamel the Kathmandu Guest House is the main landmark. Most sites of interest near the stupa can easily be reached on foot.

Staying safe

Nepal is safe to visit, but caution must be taken: avoid public demonstrations. Frequent strikes, known as bandh, are a major inconvenience because all transportation stops. Check the travel advice of your own government.
