Planning your trip to Jaipur

Climate and seasons

Jaipur's climate is semiarid, with just a few rainy days a month for most of the year; the exception is the monsoon (June to September), when heavy rain and thunderstorms are commonplace. Daytime highs are above 20 °C throughout the year, with scorching heat in May and June; winter nights seldom drop much below 10 °C.

Getting around

Rajasthan Tourism (RTDC) runs sightseeing buses with a guide. The Jaipur Metro Pink Line runs from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar in the centre of the walled Pink City. Auto-rickshaws are probably the best way to reach places on the outskirts such as Amber Fort or Galtaji.

Staying safe

Beyond the standard dangers of travelling in India (thieves, hustlers, touts, questionable drinking water), Jaipur has its own scams. In the gem scam a local strikes up a friendly conversation, invites you for tea, and later steers you toward gemstones.
