Planning your trip to Hanoi

Climate and seasons

In spring in Hanoi the weather warms up, with occasional light rain. Summer borders on intolerable, with oppressive humidity, frequent rainstorms and plenty of mosquitoes. In autumn the weather is at its most perfect, with less humidity.

Getting around

Traffic slows to a crawl for most of the day, and the public transport system has not kept up with the city's explosive growth. Metro Line 2A (Cát Linh to Yên Nghĩa) and Line 3 (Cầu Giấy to Nhổn) are open, but the two lines are not connected.

Staying safe

Walking can be intimidating, especially in the narrow streets around the Old Quarter, where traffic is dominated by motorbikes and there is no such thing as one-directional traffic. Take each step deliberately but resolutely, let the motorbikes pass, and do not rush or make erratic movements.
