Planning your trip to Delhi
Climate and seasons
Delhi has five distinct seasons. Winter (December to January) is cold at night with warm days, and is notorious for thick smog that can cancel flights and delay trains. Spring (February and March) is pleasant with warm days and cool evenings. Summer (April and May) is uncomfortably hot, with temperatures up to 45 °C. The monsoon (June to September) moderates the temperature but is humid.
Getting around
Traffic is horribly congested and many drivers will quote tourists several times the going price, so agree prices before setting off. The best way to travel is by metro, which is clean and efficient, has separate cabins for women, and reaches almost everywhere in the city.
Staying safe
Many first-time travellers to India fall victim to scams and touts, and Delhi has plenty of both. Be on guard against anybody offering unsolicited directions or travel advice, and do not blindly rely on advice from taxi and auto drivers. Wikivoyage describes Delhi as very unsafe for women travellers, with lewd remarks and even touching not uncommon in some areas.
