Planning your trip to Petra

Getting around

Many hotels in Wadi Musa organise free transport to the Petra entrance; otherwise you can walk downhill along Tourist Road for about 15 minutes or take a taxi. Within Petra the only transport allowed is on foot or by animal (camel, donkey or horse), plus carts between the Siq and the Treasury. Prices for animal rides are not set, so agree them first.

Staying safe

Many Bedouins live in the park, and most are focused on tourism. The perceived wealth of tourists, high visitor turnover and ineffective authorities can make the unavoidable interactions with touts unsavory at best and occasionally quite intimidating.
