Planning your trip to Medellín

Climate and seasons

The weather in Medellín is quite mild, earning it the motto "City of eternal spring". Average daily temperatures are about 22 °C, ranging from 15 to 30 °C, with comfortable humidity of 50 to 70 percent. Because it is close to the equator there is little variation with the seasons.

Getting around

Uber and Cabify serve the city. Rideshare apps are officially illegal in the country but appear to be widely used, and some drivers may be reluctant to go to places where police may harass them, such as bus stations and the airport terminal. The two-line Metro, the Metroplús bus rapid transit, the tram and the six-line Metrocable make getting around easy, and transfers between Metro trains and cables are free.

Staying safe

Medellín is generally a safe city for tourism, depending on the part of town and the hour, and is much safer than in previous years: in 2022 its homicide rate was the lowest since the 1970s. Much of the violence is concentrated in the city's hillside slums and among known drug traffickers.
