Planning your trip to Ibiza

Best time to visit

May, June and September bring warm sea and long days without the peak-season crush. July and August are hot, busy and at their most expensive, with the big clubs in full swing. Most clubs open around late spring and close in early autumn; from November to March the island is quiet and many hotels and beach restaurants shut.

How many days you need

Three to five days gives time for the walled old town of Dalt Vila, a few beaches and coves, and a sunset on the west coast. Add a day for a ferry trip to Formentera, the smaller neighboring island, and more if you want to split time between nightlife and the calmer north.

Getting around

Buses link Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Santa Eulària and the airport with the main beaches, with more frequent service in summer. To reach quieter coves and inland villages, a rental car or scooter is much easier. Taxis can be hard to find late at night in high season, so plan the ride home ahead.

What to skip

Club tickets bought at the door usually cost more than those booked ahead, and drinks inside are expensive. Beach clubs often charge for sunbeds, so check before you settle in. If you drive to popular coves in summer, arrive early, as parking fills up fast.
