Planning your trip to Arusha

Getting around

The main public transport is the daladala, the minibus found on all the main routes in town; it is very cheap, and the government regulates fares, which are listed on the side. Accidents involving daladalas are frequent and pickpocketing is common, so keep bags on your lap and valuables out of your pockets.

Staying safe

It is not advisable to walk at night, alone or in groups. Cabs are plentiful, but agree fares at the start of a journey because they have no meters. Avoid motorcycle taxis, especially at night, and take a cab when arriving in or leaving Arusha, because gangs usually know where backpackers arrive.
