Planning your trip to Tunis

Climate and seasons

Tunis has a Mediterranean climate, a bit warmer than on the European side. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures over 40 °C not unheard of, although thanks to the sea and surrounding mountains it is not as hot as the Sahara. Most rain falls in winter, and the mild climate makes Tunis a comfortable destination year-round.

Getting around

Tunis is well served by a five-line light metro run by Transtu, with interchange hubs at Place de la République and Place de Barcelone. The TGM suburban line from Tunis Marine station connects to La Goulette (ferries), Sidi Bou Saïd and Carthage. Free maps are available at the National Tourism Office near the main Medina gate.

Staying safe

Touts and unofficial "guides" hang around tourist spots and will expect payment for unwanted help. A lot of men on Avenue Bourguiba approach tourists and start talking; do not assume they are simply being friendly.
