Planning your trip to Warsaw

Best time to visit

May to September brings the warmest weather and long days for parks, riverside walks and outdoor cafés. Spring and early autumn are comfortable and quieter. Winter is cold and often grey, though the Old Town looks its best with seasonal lights in December.

How many days you need

Two to three days covers the rebuilt Old Town and Royal Route, the main history museums and a walk through Łazienki Park. Add a day for the Praga district across the river or a slower look at the city's many museums.

Getting around

Warsaw has a two-line metro plus a large tram and bus network, all on the same tickets, which can be bought from machines or by phone app. Distances between districts are larger than in many old European capitals, so trams are useful. Rideshares and taxis are easy to find.

What to skip

The Old Town was painstakingly rebuilt after the war, and the restaurants on the Market Square itself charge for the setting; streets a little further out offer better value. Plan to spend real time in the history museums, which are the heart of a visit and hard to rush.
