Planning your trip to Fès

Getting around

The main street of the medina is the Talaa Kbira, from Bab Boujeloud to the Kairouine mosque. If you get lost in the narrow, winding heart of the medina, constantly heading downhill will lead you to Place R'cif, where buses and petit taxis drop off.

Staying safe

Fez is somewhat safe but crowded, so take standard precautions against pickpocketing. If you hear "Belek! Belek!" behind you, stand aside because a heavily laden donkey is coming. False guides are not dangerous but can be very tenacious; the best technique is not to acknowledge them.
