Planning your trip to Jeju Island
Climate and seasons
Jeju Island sits on the border between the temperate and subtropical zones, with average daily highs from 3 °C in January to 30 °C in August. The climate is milder than that of the Korean mainland thanks to surrounding warm currents, but the island is windy throughout the year. Rainfall is heaviest between June and September.
Getting around
Nothing in downtown Jeju is more than about 2 km from anywhere else, so walking is quite feasible and sometimes even faster than the bus. For longer walks there are 27 Jeju Olle Trail courses, 437 km long in total.
Staying safe
Jeju has the lowest crime rate in South Korea, and violent crime is almost non-existent, although there are pickpockets, as in any tourist hub. Parts of the south coast, even near Jungmun, are rockfall regions, and a Korean warning sign near a cliff or cave is probably warning of rockfalls.
